Short-time heat treatments in oxygen strengthened Ti-Zr α titanium alloys: A simple approach for optimized strength-ductility trade-off

The influence of short-time heat treatments on Ti-4.5Zr alloys (wt%) with respectively low (2000 ppm) and high (6000 oxygen contents is investigated the aim optimizing their strength/ductility trade-off. Starting from a cold-rolled state (85% total thickness reduction), level ductility restored in both systems thanks to recovery process while resistance drop limited, thus proving effectiveness approach. This work highlights potential reaching recovered microstructure obtain optimized mechanical properties Ti-Zr system.
